In a Fix by Linda Grimes
My Thoughts: After reading the first line of the blurb I knew I have to read this book. "The start of an original new urban fantasy series starring human chameleon Ciel Halligan" I mean a human chameleon and urban fantasy? Doesn't it sound absolutely fan-freakin-tastic? Urban fantasy is one of my favorite genres, and the idea of using human chameleons as main characters is super unique. I don't think I've ever come across with it in any book yet. Plus the name Ciel* has also got me.
"Tempting, but Mom made me swear to never work with you. She even got out the Bible." "What? I can't believe she doesn't love me anymore! My own aunt." " Oh, she loves you to pieces. She just doesn't trust you as far as she can spit. And, yes, that's a direct quote."
And it's been a while since I read something so funny. The characters - Ciel, Billy, Mark and Thomas - were all hilarious. Especially Billy. He was priceless. However the love triangle was too much in the focus for me. I don't like them in general, but at least in In a Fix I liked how things ended (for now). So I'm not going to complain too much. I just hope that the next book would focus more on the "couple", and wouldn't turn into a "threesome".
The boys were a tad too over-protecting, but it was cute and funny, so I'm happy (for now). But hoping for some more kick-ass Ciel action next time.
Let's talk a little about the plot. We've got some crazy Sweden Vikings obsessed with kidnapping, bombs and weird costumes, lots of shape shifting, a wanna-be-bride trying to get the ring, a missing CIA agent and Queen Liz in disguise. It sounds messy, right? Well, it was. It also sounds funny. And it was, hilarious. But I have to admit the plot wasn't substantial enough to cause interest. Still it was a great background for the characters to do/say crazy things, and make me laugh out loud. I liked that.
Overall, In a Fix was a really fun read with awesome characters, and I know I'll be back for the next to see those characters again.
I recommend In a Fix to fans of The Disillusionists trilogy and Charley Davidson series.

Title: In a Fix
Series: In a Fix #1
Author: Linda Grimes
Blurb from Goodreads:
The start of an original new urban fantasy series starring human chameleon Ciel Halligan.
Snagging a marriage proposal for her client while on an all-expenses-paid vacation should be a simple job for Ciel Halligan, aura adaptor extraordinaire. A kind of human chameleon, she’s able to take on her clients’ appearances and slip seamlessly into their lives, solving any sticky problems they don’t want to deal with themselves. No fuss, no muss. Big paycheck.
This particular assignment is pretty enjoyable... that is, until Ciel’s island resort bungalow is blown to smithereens and her client’s about-to-be-fiancé is snatched by modern-day Vikings. For some reason, Ciel begins to suspect that getting the ring is going to be a tad more difficult than originally anticipated.
Going from romance to rescue requires some serious gear-shifting, as well as a little backup. Her best friend, Billy, and Mark, the CIA agent she’s been crushing on for years—both skilled adaptors—step in to help, but their priority is, annoyingly, keeping her safe. Before long, Ciel is dedicating more energy to escaping their watchful eyes than she is to saving her client’s intended.
Suddenly, facing down a horde of Vikings feels like the least of her problems.
