Angelfall (Penryn & the End of Days #1) by Susan Ee
My Thoughts: I did everything in my power to avoid this book. You see, it's about angels. ANGELS! Thank you, but no thank you!
The book's first attempt to catch me was exposing me to the stunning beauty of its cover. I mean, isn't it alluring? And kind of angelic, too, but in a totally badass way.
But I still stayed strong.
Then came the next attack, Raving Reviews. And it successfully shattered the last of my resistance.
Finally, battle lost, and being more than a little curious at this point, I caved in. And I have to admit I absolutely loved it. I've devoured it in no time and was left for wanting more.
Angelfall has completely blown me away and surpassed my expectations so far that the next post-apocalyptic book I read is going to have a damn hard time to even come close to this level of awesomeness.
It was dark, but oh-so-funny at the same time. Penryn and Raffe had chemistry off the charts. Their relationship reminded me of Charley&Reyes' in the Charley Davidson series (by Darynda Jones). And Penryn herself is like a younger version of Charley, and I just loved how strong she is, both emotionally and physically. And let's not forget: funny!
"You are nothing, but a bird with an attitude. Okay, so you have a few muscles, I'll grant you that. But you know, a bird is nothing but a barely evolved lizard. That's what you are."
Raffe is hot, bad ass, stubborn, hot, amusing, and really you have to meet him!
And Penryn's Mom? She's well, a little unbalanced, or mad as a hatter, if you prefer - definitely one interesting character.
The plot, the word-building - Silicon Valley after the apocalypse, frightful angels, street gangs, human resistance, cannibals - were amazing. Words can't describe how terrific this book is.
And now here I'm craving the next book like an addict seeking the next hit. I knew this book was bad news, and I really shouldn't have read it. *joking* But really, how I'm going to survive until the next book comes out?
