Storm (Elementals #1) by Brigid Kemmerer

Storm (Elementals #1) by Brigid Kemmerer

My Thoughts: I was absolutely thrilled, when I heard that there was a new book coming out with a lead who can control elements. I knew I had to get my hands on it as soon as possible. I love the four elements of nature - Air, Water, Fire and Earth - and have read many stories, tales about them. And Storm is about people that have - stronger or weaker - abilities based on the four elements. So it makes a fine addition to my "Elemental Collection".

Storm offers us many, many hot guys. First, there're the Merrick brothers. 4  - two of them are twins - super hot guys. Their parents died a few years ago, and since then Michael, the oldest has been taking care of them, with more or less success. Michael has the power of Earth. He's down to earth, rational, a little rude, but still likeable, and I liked him very much. I think he has his own novella, which I have yet to read.
The twins, Nick (Air) and Gabriel (Fire) were so different from each other and yet so much alike. They were my favorites, and I hope Gabriel gets his own story, too. (edit: The new book in the series, Spark is Gabriel's story. Yay!)
Chris is the main guy character in Storm, and I loved him, too. He can control water, and he's the most powerful of the brothers. His power was cool, but he wasn't that unique. Chris is the typical good "bad boy", but he is interesting and funny, and that was enough to make me like him. So I really have no complaints about him. He was good a hero.
I loved the dinamic between the brothers, the way they communicated/fighted with each other. It was amusing to watch them.  And despite all the fights - hey, they're boys - they loved each other very much.
"You're...ah...probably wondering what I'm doing here."
"Nah." He took a swing of Gatorade then wiped his mouth on his sleeve. "Finding a girl in the kitchen isn't exactly an oddity around here."
And then there's also Hunter. The mysterious New Guy. To tell the truth, he seemed a little unnecessary. Don't get me wrong, I was happy it wasn't like the Vampire Diaries, where the brothers fall for the same girl, but 5 hot boys in one book? Well, he has a dog, so I guess he could stay. :)

The girl protagonist, Becca was my biggest problem. I didn't like her very much. First she was cool, and seemed nice and smart. But what she did later went a bit too close to two-timing, for my taste. But that's just my opinion. And that's also one of the reasons that I liked that the brothers were not nice and sweet on her from the start. That was refreshing.

Because of their power, the brothers are in constant danger, and they're  trying to stay under the radar. But after Becca saves Chris, she makes herself a target, too. So the guys have to step up to protect her and themselves. I don't want to ruin the book for you, so I'll keep it vague. I'm only saying that all the characters have secrets,  the plot has twists and the story ends in a satisfying way.

Storm  is a fast-paced, easy to read, easy to love book. For me the romance didn't work this time, but I liked to read about the rivaling Elementals. Overall, I enjoyed Storm, and I'll probably be reading more from Brigid Kemmerer.

Title: Storm
Series: Elementals #1
Author: Brigid Kemmerer
Blurb from Goodreads:
Earth, Fire, Air, Water – they have more power than you dream.  Ever since her ex-boyfriend spread those lies about her, Becca Chandler is suddenly getting all the guys—all the ones she doesn't want. Then she saves Chris Merrick from a beating in the school parking lot. Chris is different. Way different: he can control water—just like his brothers can control fire, wind, and earth. They’re powerful. Dangerous. Marked for death.
And now that she knows the truth, so is Becca.  Secrets are hard to keep when your life’s at stake. When Hunter, the mysterious new kid around school, turns up with a talent for being in the wrong place at the right time, Becca thinks she can trust him. But then Hunter goes head-to-head with Chris, and Becca wonders who’s hiding the most dangerous truth of all.  The storm is coming . . .
