What A Boy Wants by Nyrae Dawn
My Thoughts: What a Boy Wants? A different girl every week? Or The Girl? Sebastian thought he wanted the easy prey, but then realized that what he really wants is his BFF, Aspen.
Sebastian, a.k.a the Hook-up Doctor (on the net) was a very funny, very real teen. He loves his music, his friends, and his Mom. He is popular, hot and he KNOWS it. He’s so gonna be my Book Boyfriend next week.I really love that guy on the cover. Actually he was the reason that I picked up the book in the first place. Who could resist that face? I couldn't. And I was right, he was really impressive. I can guarantee you'll love him, too. You couldn't not love him to pieces. But don't get me wrong, he's not perfect. He made the stupidest mistakes ever. One after another. There're a quite a few times I wished I could strangle him. How could he be that much of an idiot???..... Okay. Let’s take some deep breaths. I'm caaalm.... But in the end no matter what he did I couldn't stop loving him. And I really rooted for a happily ever after for Sebastian and Aspen. They're like the new generation of Joey&Pacey (not Dawson). Dawson's Creek is even mentioned in the book, and really this book has that sometimes funny sometimes awkward atmosphere of the tv series.
I also liked the best friends, Jaden and Tris. The four of them were such a lively, funny bunch. And Sebastian's mom? She was a fantastic mom. And dance teacher ("not the sleazy kind"!).
Still, I pulled her into a hug, because I knew she'd just let me off the hook on purpose and yeah, I'm a guy and I love my mom. So shoot me. I'm man enough to hug her without feeling like a mama's boy.
The story is told from the first person view of Sebastian. And it was perfect. His thoughts were hilarious (most of the time.), sweet and sometimes stupid. And he just generally felt real. I liked that.
One thing I missed that there wasn’t more Hook-up Doctor cases, just one. But I liked the twist in The Case.
This book was an emotional rollercoaster. I laughed, screamed, almost cried, laughed again, yelled, grinned and then let out a satisfied sigh. It was quite a trip. I loved (almost) every page of it. But I think it ended much too soon....I'd love to read a sequel. Maybe next time Jaden could tell his story.
What a Boy Wants is an exhilaratingly fresh take on contemporary YA romance, and it made me want to read more from Nyrae Dawn.
Title: What A Boy Wants
Series: What A Boy Wants #1
Author: Nyrae Dawn
Blurb from Goodreads:
Courtesy of watching his mom’s relationships, Sebastian Hawkins knows what girls need to do to get a guy. He has what he considers a PHD in hooking up. When he needs extra cash for a car, Sebastian starts up an online venture as The Hook-up Doctor, to anonymously help girls land the guy of their dreams. Of course, his services don’t offer a happily-ever-after guarantee. He’s seen firsthand getting together never means staying together. And then he falls in love… With the last girl he would expect…
Totally not in his game plan. Suddenly, Sebastian finds himself muddled in the game he’s always prided himself on. He can’t even pick up girls at parties anymore! Why would anyone want to be in love when it turns you into a stuttering, screwed-up, mess with really lame stalker tendencies? Stalking? Totally not his gig. But the Hook-up Doctor won’t let himself go down easily. He’s always known how to give a girl what she wants and now it’s time to figure out what a boy wants… and he definitely plans on getting it.
